The remit of highways engineer jobs includes data collection and feasibility studies, route planning and statutory procedures. There are also design and procurement aspects involved as well as site supervision and management of operations and maintenance.

Information gathering is a key part of highways agency jobs: gathering, analysing and reviewing data and forecasting demand for road use. You might also have to make recommendations of improvements for upgrading or downgrading carriageways. 

Highways jobs for qualified engineers

A degree in civil engineering or chartered civil / highways engineer or relevant discipline is usually required, while experience of delivering highways infrastructure design product is also important for highways jobs.

Comprehensive knowledge of DMRB, MCDHW, TSR&GD, Sewers for Adoptions and other relevant standards is desirable. Experience of software packages ie MX/CAD/EXCEL/AUTOTRACK is keenly sought. Technical skills must be allied to interpersonal skills and accomplished communication skills, as you could be dealing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
