Business Development Jobs

A Business development manager is responsible for pursuing commercial opportunities and to lead the management and preparation of the company’s response to them.

This is achieved by either developing a relationship with a client and influencing their decision, or on a tender basis which usually leads to a contract being awarded based on cost. Business development managers also develop new business opportunities, researching, creativity, new contracts and converting those into quality commercial opportunities and contracts.

Business development jobs in facilities management

To succeed in business development jobs, you will need excellent interpersonal skills, strong influencing, negotiation and presentation skills, and importantly a high level of numeracy (good understanding of costs especially in tender preparation). 

No general qualifications are needed but most successful candidates come from the industry and have a well-rounded knowledge of FM. Jobs as business development managers are very much about relationships and building a “contacts” base in the industry. Salaries are structured either on a commission or non-commission (with bonus) basis.
