The pros and cons of interim careers
Perhaps the most cited benefit for following the ‘career’ interim path is the positive impact it has on your work-life balance. The ability to be more selective about the type of role offered and the flexibility it affords to your working hours, makes this a lifestyle change. And there’s no turning back for some.
However, it’s not a move that suits everyone. Assignments will vary in duration and there may be times when work can dry up. “You need to have some sort of financial buffer when times get hard,” advises Aine Flood, Senior Manager at Hays Health & Safety.
Striking the right balance between work and life
As well as being a career in its own right, an interim health & safety job can be one of the best ways to secure a permanent role. “Interim assignments are a great way to get your foot in the door and you’ll be first in line if any permanent opportunities arise,” remarks Aine Flood.
As long as you have considered the potential pitfalls before you start, an interim health & safety career has a lot to offer, both financially and professionally. An improved work-life balance can often tip the scales in favour of the interim promised land.
