Reuel - Project Manager
Why it’s great to work for ECH
I look for two things in a company – senior managers with ability and vision that is “best in class” and career progression that is meritocratic. EC Harris has both. In an environment where talent is king, however, the company values its staff at all levels.
I joined EC Harris in 1999 and was promoted to Associate Partner in 2002. This required a rigorous performance review against specified criteria that covered my business, professional and leadership performance. It followed a period where I had stepped up in management responsibility and made an impact with my team and the clients that I was working for.
My background is in civil and structural design and project management. Since joining EC Harris I have had the opportunity to hone and grow my skills in different environments. Projects that I have worked on vary from integration of security, fire and control systems for automatically operated entrance doors to major refurbishment of a multiple span steel bridge carrying trains over waterways for an infrastructure concession owner. One of my favourite projects was the replacement of a bridge for a development client where of the three golden rules of project management, only time and quality were a consideration. A bit like Miss World, I love children and travelling. Well my family has grown to four kids and I’ve worked in Dublin since joining EC Harris! In Dublin I was part of a hit squad sent in to accelerate the programme for delivery of a new city centre tram system. My expertise on this project built on my contract manager role for the Metronet PPP £160M track replacement project.
I enjoy interaction with people in the course of my work. I have managed teams of people within EC Harris and client organisations and enjoyed developing them and helping them to perform better. I have had the opportunity to foster client and corporate partnership relationships and influence client’s organisational change. I find hard and soft project management stimulating in different ways and relish the challenge of both. I regularly engage with others in the company to share my ideas and work together with them to improve how we do business. Probably the most satisfying thing about my job is the space available to improve and progress while having fun at the same time, because EC Harris definitely knows how to corporately let its hair down.
My current role includes an interesting mix of client and corporate responsibilities. I am working as part of a team with a management consultancy commission for the estates department of a leading UK university to improve the procurement and supply chain management for their capital works programme. Corporately I am a local champion for the delivery of Project Management services. I support the Highway and Rail Sector Champions, lead a team of three senior consultants and am responsible for co-ordinating some of our B2B relationships. All of these corporate work streams have specific business objectives and the opportunities in these areas are significant.
