VOIP & IPT jobs
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is technology that is used to make calls over the Internet instead of the public telephone network. It is also often referred to as IP Telephony.
IPT jobs within Business Telephony
The demand for VoIP and IPT jobs has driven growth in the Business Telephony sector as companies take advantage of the convergence between voice and data communications, enabling them to run their telecoms over their computer networks and also to cut the cost of calls between sites.
As well as Business Telephony jobs, the adoption of VoIP has driven large technological changes in the way telecoms carriers build their networks and has also seen the growth of companies providing managed (hosted) VoIP solutions and solutions for consumer VoIP eg companies like Skype and Vonage.
Telecoms carriers running VoIP networks need engineers, designers, architects and managers with knowledge of the new technologies that enable voice and other communications (eg video) to travel over IP networks. These include SIP, MGCP, H.323, Softswitching and QoS.
Qualifications and techonology in VOIP jobs
At the “end-user” end, the training and certifications from VoIP-enabled telecoms systems for businesses are highly desired by prospective employers ie accreditations in Avaya or Cisco IP-based PBX’s and contact centres. Cisco accreditations in general are very useful for the essential IP network skills they teach.
As a fact-developing market, the opportunities for exposure to new technologies in VoIP are excellent and anyone working at the Telecoms carrier end of a VoIP network will typically be exposed to a range of vendor technology whatever job they are doing.
